Information on Testicular Cancer

Testicular cancer is cancer that is found in the testicles.

It commonly affects people with testicles aged between 15 and 49.  It’s important to check your testicles regularly so you know what’s normal for you, and to look out for any changes to the size, look or feel of your testicles.

cancer by clicking on the button below.

Checking your testicles

Checking your testicles regularly (around once a month) is important as it allows you to get to know your body better.  This will make it easier to notice if anything changes.

Symptoms to look out for include: –

  • Lumps or swellings (testicles should feel smooth and firm, but not hard)
  • Changes to the size, weight or shape of your testicles (it’s common for one testicle to be larger than the other or hang lower)
  • Anything else that isn’t normal for you

The best time to check your testicles is during or just after a warm bath or shower.  Here’s how to check: –

  • Hold your scrotum (the skin covering the testicles) in the palm of your hand
  • Use the other hand to gently roll the testicles (one at a time) between your thumb and fingers
  • Feel behind both testicles to check the small soft tubes at the back of the testicles (epididymis) to ensure there’s no hardness, swelling or pain.

The NHS has more information about checking your testicles, including a helpful video showing you how.
