Checking your testicles
Checking your testicles regularly (around once a month) is important as it allows you to get to know your body better. This will make it easier to notice if anything changes.
Symptoms to look out for include: –
- Lumps or swellings (testicles should feel smooth and firm, but not hard)
- Changes to the size, weight or shape of your testicles (it’s common for one testicle to be larger than the other or hang lower)
- Anything else that isn’t normal for you
The best time to check your testicles is during or just after a warm bath or shower. Here’s how to check: –
- Hold your scrotum (the skin covering the testicles) in the palm of your hand
- Use the other hand to gently roll the testicles (one at a time) between your thumb and fingers
- Feel behind both testicles to check the small soft tubes at the back of the testicles (epididymis) to ensure there’s no hardness, swelling or pain.
